About
Harrison Solow is a distinguished writer, university lecturer, creative and strategic consultant to a wide variety of institutions. She has to date written/edited/executed over 400 publications and projects.
Harrison has lectured at a number of universities and colleges in the United States, Canada and Great Britain. A former faculty member at UC Berkeley, she accepted a lectureship in the English department of the University of Wales in 2004 and was appointed Writer in Residence in 2008. She was also contracted as the Director of the international inter-cultural institute, The St. David's Institute for Wales in the World.
Harrison resigned from her university positions in order to work full time on her third and fourth books during the 2009/2010 academic year but plans to return to teaching (at an American university) in the autumn of 2010. Although she writes and has received prestigious awards for fiction, Harrison specializes in literary nonfiction.
Her main research interest is liminal literature. She is currently writing up her creative doctoral dissertation with a critical commentary on liminality and expects to receive her PhD in 2010. In addition to her own work, she continues to write for the professions and academia.
Harrison was invited to lecture at Cambridge University in September of 2009 in honour of the 800th Anniversary of the university. The title of her address was Intellectual Legacy. Her forthcoming book, Felicity and Barbara Pym, is scheduled to be launched at the Hay on Wye Book Festival in May 2010.
Harrison is a member of The Association of Literary Scholars and Critics, The Intercollegiate Studies Institute, The National Association of Scholars, The (by invitation only) Women's Faculty Club of the University of California, Berkeley,The Association of Welsh Writers in English, The Claremont Institute, Association for Core Texts and Courses, The Red Room, The Association of Writing Programs, and The National Coalition of Independent Scholars, where she serves on the Board.
She speaks various varieties of English as well as intermediate standard Welsh and rusty French.
Harrison was awarded a Pushcart Prize for Literature in 2008.
She is represented by Russell Galen (Scovil, Galen, Ghosh) in New York.
